ARCON

USA company, ARCON is a leading provider of welding and metal fabrication training and operates an existing training facility in Salisbury, Maryland.

The challenge

The offshore wind industry in the United States is growing rapidly with numerous offshore wind farm projects currently being planned. The U.S. East Coast has been earmarked as a key location for many of these projects such as the Skipjack wind farm off Maryland, which will host the world’s largest turbines – GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade-X 12-megawatt wind turbines. ARCON was keen to leverage its expertise in training to tap into the offshore wind market opportunity but didn’t have any experience in the wind sector.

Our solution

ARCON partnered with 3t Training Solutions to develop the first Mid-Atlantic GWO-accredited offshore wind training centre in Salisbury, Maryland.

The new centre has been purpose-built at ARCON’s existing training facility in Salisbury, Maryland and is the first In the U.S.A. to offer the full-suite GWO accredited training. As well as helping with the design of the new centre, 3t Training Solutions lead on obtaining wind industry accreditation, course portfolio development, instructor training and ongoing operational support & business development.

The result

Katarina Ennerfelt, ARCON Training Centre, said: We are delighted and extremely proud to have gained the highly coveted GWO-approval, which allows us to now offer industry-accredited training for the fast-growing U.S. wind industry for the very first time.

“The growth and positive impact that this opportunity will have for the Eastern Shore of Maryland is limitless. We have always pushed and advocated for jobs and continued education in the trade and labour market and to be part of something that will create thousands of jobs and opportunities for people in the Maryland and Delmarva area is truly an amazing feeling.   We have been a proponent of Offshore Wind for years and all the benefits renewable energy will bring not only to the state of Maryland but hopefully as a springboard to the rest of the country.
